The Associated Press has reported that Missouri Tiger standout and San Francisco 49er rookie linebacker Aldon Smith was charged with driving under the influence in Miami. Smith broke the 49er franchise record for sacks recorded by a rookie with 14 and has made a strong case for Rookie of the Year and was nominated alongside Andi Dalton, Von Miller, Cam Newton, and Patrick Peterson for the award. Fans have a chance to vote for Rookie of the Year until Tuesday, January 31st. The DUI charge will most definitely hurt Aldon Smith’s chances of receiving the award. There is a good chance that Missouri coach Gary Pinkel, who was charged with a DUI in 2011, will have no comment.
